چکیده

Peshkin and Sanderson showed that parts can be aligned as they move on a conveyor belt against a pass ive sequence of fences In this paper we describe the rst complete algorithm to design such sequences for a given convex polygonal part The algorithm is com plete in the sense that it is guaranteed to nd a design if one exists and to terminate with a negative report oth erwise Based on an exact breadth rst search of the design space the algorithm is also guaranteed to nd the design requiring the fewest fences We describe the algorithm and compare results with those previously re ported We conjecture that a fence design exists to ori ent any convex polygonal part

Computing fence designs for orienting parts

A common task in automated manufacturing processes is to orient parts prior to assembly. We consider sensorless orientation of a polygonal part by a sequence of fences. We show that any polygonal part can be oriented by a sequence of fences placed along a conveyor belt, thereby settling a conjecture by Wiegley et al. [17], and present the rst polynomial-time algorithm to compute the shortest su...

Optimal integrated passive/active design of the suspension system using iteration on the Lyapunov equations

In this paper, an iterative technique is proposed to solve linear integrated active/passive design problems. The optimality of active and passive parts leads to the nonlinear algebraic Riccati equation due to the active parameters and some associated additional Lyapunov equations due to the passive parameters. Rather than the solution of the nonlinear algebraic Riccati equation, it is proposed ...

Optimum Designing of Forging Preform Die for the H-shaped Parts Using Backward Deformation Method and Neural Networks Algorithm

In a closed die forging process, it is impossible to form complex shapes in one stage, and thus it becomes necessary to use preform dies. In the present study, Backward Deformation Method and FE simulation via ABAQUS software has been used in order to design preform die of the H-shaped parts. In the Backward Deformation Method, the final shape of the part is considered as a starting point and u...

Prioritizing the equipment for making smart buildings with passive defense approach

Background and Aim: Since buildings are constantly exposed to threats, it is necessary that they be fully prepared to confront with all threats and their damages. Therefore, using the passive defense basics and principles in designing and constructing the buildings are considered obvious and undeniable. To prevent or reduce disasters caused by flood, earthquake, and war and so on, solutions suc...

Robotic Manipulation for Parts Transfer and Orienting: Mechanics, Planning, and Shape Uncertainty

Robots can modify their environment by manipulating objects. To fully exploit this ability, it is important to determine the manipulation capabilities of a given robot. Such characterization in terms of the physics and geometry of the task has important implications for manufacturing applications, where simpler hardware leads to cheaper and more reliable systems. This thesis develops techniques...
